Ryan graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) with a First Class Honours Degree in Music, majoring in Jazz Performance. During his studies, Ryan performed with many acclaimed artists including: Kneebody, Troy Roberts, David Theak, Julian Argüelles, Kate Ceberano, Julien Wilson, Vince Jones, Ross Irwin, Alan Vizutti, Robert Childs, David Childs and also performed in the pit in the WAAPA musicals Reefer Madness and West Side Story. In 2018, Ryan auditioned and was selected to play drums for Western Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra’s Wednesday Night Orchestra which gave him the opportunity to work and perform with local and visiting international artists such as Migiwa Miyajima.

Ryan gained international experience performing in Europe at the 2014 Terni Jazz Festival, Italy and The Jazz Dock, Prague. Ryan also played with the Zack Linton Trio at the Bridgetown Blues Festival, winning the 2015 Blues Challenge which resulted in an invitation to perform at the Memphis International Blues Challenge, USA (2015). Ryan has performed nationally at the Doo Bop Jazz Bar, Jazz Music Institute, Foundry 616 Sydney, Jazz lab and Paris Cat Jazz Club.
Ryan has performed at many music festivals including the Duke of Edinburgh International Awards (2014), Bridgetown Blues Festival (2014, 2016), Perth International Jazz Festival (2017-2019), Perth International Arts Festival (2017), Perth Fringe Festival (2017-2020), King Street Corner Pocket Festival (2018, 2019), Western Australian Music Festival (2018), Perth Japan Festival (2018), Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival (2019), Perth Festival (2020) and more.

Ryan has also been privileged to play at many of Perth’s finest music venues including Perth Concert Hall, Perth Crown, Optus Stadium, Perth Town Hall, Astor Theatre, Regal Theatre, The Ellington Jazz Club, Belvoir Amphitheatre, Fremantle Arts Centre, State Theatre Courtyard, Heath Ledger Studio, Downstairs at His Majesty’s, Rosemount Hotel, UWA Winthrop Hall and more.

Ryan released his debut album, Fragile Information, in 2016, featuring Ryan Daunt, Luke Minness, Nick Abbey and Chris Foster. Ryan has also featured on multiple West Australian records including Piece of Walter Have a Slice (2013), Gemma Farrell Organised Chaos (2017), ML RUUBZ Segue on the Beach (2017). MFG MFG (2018), MELVE Volume one (2018), Take Care (2019), West Australia Youth Jazz Orchestra Best of WAYJO 2018 (2018), The Island Trio The Island Trio (2019) and Tim Voutas Quartet Introducing TVQ (2019). Ryan also featured in the short film Ivory, directed by Andrew Newcombe at Murdoch University (2018).

In August 2016, Ryan attended the 2016 Croatian drum camp, where he studied with drumming legends Steve Gadd, John Riley, Horacio Hernandez and Claus Hessler. Ryan placed in the top 10 drummers in Drumtek’s Australia’s Best Up and Coming Drummer competition in 2015 and 2018.
